I love taking pictures of the sun rising over the lake. The colors mirrored over the water can be spectacular.

But as I was watching this June, 2017 sunrise I was so disappointed.

Why? Short answer: Because I was acting spoiled. I wanted a feast for my eyes!  I wanted to see gorgeous pinks and purples like I had seen so many times before, and all I was seeing was a yellow glow. I know – so spoiled. Embarrassing.

Anyway, it was a chilly unseasonably cold 48°F at 4:30 am in late June when I had gone outside to take pictures of the sun rising over the lake and I thought with regret, this isn’t worth it, I am cold and sleepy and this sunrise is boring.  I guess I should have skipped this one and stayed in my warm cozy bed and got some much needed sleep.

And then I thought, no that is wrong, when I have the opportunity, I always have to get out of bed early and come outside and take the chance that it will be beautiful. Who knows when I’m going to get that spectacular multicolored view I so cherish? I wouldn’t have a chance to see it if I slept through it and didn’t try.

Yep, I always have to try – even though sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.

And then in a split second I thought to myself, are you kidding, what do you mean by LOSE, you are about to watch the sun rise over a beautiful lake! How wonderful is that? What about seeing that is considered losing?  With the follow up thought… so you always win.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose… But you always win. Hm, I like that thought. It’s kind of brilliant actually.

It can apply to everything that has ever happened to me in my life. Illnesses, tragedies, traumas – they all taught me lessons, lessons that made me wiser, stronger, more loving and compassionate – and in that regard, I won.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose… But you always win.

And then in that moment, as if the universe was validating that little flash of inspiration, I looked way over to my right, away from the rising sun, and saw these beautiful pinks and purples in the sky.

Ahhhh, now there’s my reward! Click, click, click goes the camera.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. But you always win. I wonder what Higher Being put that flash of inspiration in my head?
